On a trip to California a few weeks ago, I went back to the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park at the end of Big Sur, 37 miles south of the town of Carmel. There you can see McWay Falls empty itself onto the beach at Waterfall Cove.

I stopped by the side of the road a mile or so before getting there, looked down and took this picture:

Once you reach the end of the dirt path that skirts the cove, the view to the north is still fascinating:
