Bixby Bridge on Highway 1 along the coastline south of Carmel, CA is the famous backdrop for many car commercials, and tourists who travel on that road almost never fail to stop and take pictures of the bridge. Most do it from the ocean side looking in, forgetting that there is another side of Bixby that can be as dramatic and beautiful. All it takes is to park your car, cross the road, hike up a little bit, then look back to see the kind of view shown below.
I would like to start the new year with the following photo of Bixby Bridge from California’s Highway 1 along the Pacific Ocean.
At the start of 2013, we all know what took place around us in 2012, but we can’t really see what the future has for us in the next 365 days.
Likewise, standing at one end of the bridge,we know of course what town or what feature of the landscape we have driven through. Who knows what lies ahead at the other end of the bridge. More fantastic scenery? Probably, but we should not forget that in the Spring of 2011, part of the road collapsed and slid down the mountain side, forcing the bridge to be closed for several months.
