The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783 by Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, John Adams, on behalf of the United States of America, and David Hartley, representing the King of England. It ended the war between the two countries and recognized the independence of the United States. Signing took place in the Hotel d’York at 56 rue Jacob, Paris. Today, a simple plaque on the wall reminds us of the event, and few notice it as they walk by.
