We have two Southern Magnolia (magnolia grandiflora) trees which are the last of the magnolias to bloom each year. Their flowers are white and enormous, as you can see from the photos I took this morning.

We had a tree like yours in the front garden of the home I grew up in. I loved it beyond measure. Until I was about 22, I thought it was the only kind of magnolia there is !! 🙂

People told me that these magnolias would not do well in our area. I planted three, one died, but the remaining two survived and are still living after this past winter which was really cold and snowy.

It’s really interesting, that … I mean, I grew up in Perth, Western Australia; and snow was just a concept …

Truly lovely and does have the sensuous lines typical of O’Keefe!

Thank you, Judy. This kind of magnolia should be quite common in your area, right?

Amy, this kind of magnolia blooms starting late June and into July, at least in our area anyway.

Absolutely gorgeous, reminds me of a Georgia O’Keefe painting.

Now that you mentioned Georgia O’Keefe, I do see some similarity, at least shapewise. The colors of her Red Poppy are more voluptuous though.
