Juncos are winter sparrows, and they have the same feistiness of the ordinary urban sparrow. Today it was snowy and rainy outside, with temperatures soon to go into the 20’s. The juncos were out in force, with two of them suddenly fighting for food, for no apparent reason. I took the following three shots within less than a second.
After these shots, the fight lasted perhaps a second more but the two birds had flown to the right and up, out of the camera’s sight.

Looks like that feeder attracts lots of hungry visitors. Yeah, in observing birds, I find they are quite possessive of their food!

The birds seem to be feeding all day long. Perhaps they can’t find enough food on the snow covered ground. 🙂

Wonderful shot, Neihtn. I have bird feeders, but not like this, and yes, a-ha, I do have squirrels. I happen to feed many critters in my backyard. LOL Love, Amy

You are generous with the squirrels? 🙂 If I left them to their own device they would empty the bird feeder in no time, leaving nothing to the birds.

All seem to be able to share on my property. Now, the deer though, they really DO empty that feeder of mine. I’ve seen them waiting in our woods, watching for me to fill the feeders, and as I turn to go back in the house, they hit me. GROAN! They do the very same with my Roses, so it is a constant “battle” to outsmart mainly deer. I’ve seen the rabbit population increase, due to one of my cats no longer going outside. That means I must buy Liquid Fence for my bulbs that will be coming up next month or else if not, those rabbits are going to have a feast. *sigh* Squirrels are the least of my problems. LOL Love, Amy

Deer also eat bulbs, especially tulips. I am only planting daffodils now, as all the tulips got wiped out years ago.

I know. Liquid Fence I use is for both deer and rabbits. I am planning on getting some THIS month so that when the early bulbs start coming up I am there before the deer to “train” the deer NO WAY, this is mine! Good luck with your bulbs!! (((HUGS))) Amy

In continuous shooting mode I got 3 shots in less than a second. You will be very happy with a bird feeder. Get the same kind I have if you want to thwart squirrels.
