We left Holbrook, AZ to go to Montrose, CO for a planned visit to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. I drove over 400 miles, with a detour to the Four Corners Monument where the borders of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet. Not much to see there.
Here’s one family posing for a photograph, with each person seated in one state.
The drive got really serious in Colorado between Cortez and Montrose, with many hairpin turns and a steady climb up the mountains. Fortunately aspens were at their height of fall colors and I stopped a couple times so that we can take pictures.

Those yellow aspens are gorgeous against the blue sky! I agree, there is not to see at 4 corners. A tourist trap of nothing!

Thanks for posting pictures of one of my favorite drives. I lived in both Dolores and Rico, often drove to Telluride and driving through Ridgeway is one of my favorite views anywhere.
