When I saw this sunrise at Badlands National Park during my recent road trip, I knew it was going to be impossible to take only one photo that would take into account the bright and colorful rising sun shining intensely over everything, and the hills that were only a third as bright. So I took three shots: overexposed, underexposed, and normal. Today, using Photomatix HDR software, I got the following result.

Thanks Doda. Standing before such a beautiful scene, I had to come up with something to capture and keep a record of it in a photo. I don’t use HDR often, but this time this was perfect for it.

One of my old high school friends from highschool (he is actually on the last photo of my last post) often travels through the Badlands…and this time we talked for hours about it. I’ve not seen many shots from the area, just word of mouth (and through songs). You had just shown me a great photographic reason to go…wow!!

Thanks Randall! Badlands National Park is much underrated. However, that makes it a nice place to go to because you don’t have to contend with too many visitors at those overlooks or view points. The roads are mostly well paved, except for a few small sections. I would recommend it highly.

This is what I have heard of it too ~ very few tourist, but those who have been there say it has a magical feel to it. To be honest, a lack of people at any park in the US makes it heaven for me. 🙂 Thank you!

Stunning result! I like HDR but oftentimes too busy or lazy to take bracketed shots. But it pays off, as you have shown here!

Tiny, I’ve had the software for 3 years but have not used it that much. I tried four different variations before deciding on this one. It took some time, and I wish I had a faster computer.:-)

Dear Hien, Thank you very much for your beautiful pictures from your trips. You must have driven hundred, if not thousand of miles to have these artistic pictures taken. I admire your talent, effort and patience to produce these works. Hope to see Quynh and you soon. Best regards.
