The year is fast closing on all of us, and I’ve been looking through my files to select the best photos of the year for an upcoming post. Juvenile Ring-billed Gull trying to figure out how to eat that mollusk in its bill. An adult gull would have flow up high and drop the oyster or the clam on a hard surface, breaking the shell. This juvenile had not been taught that yet, and I watched it for about 15 minutes carrying its lunch without being able to eat it.
“Red Flying Group”, a sculpture by Ann Gillen in front of 909 Third Avenue in New York City. It was placed there in 1987.
