The blizzard of 2016, Jonas, turned out to be one for the records. The amount of snow dumped on our region approached or even exceeded all-time records dating back to the 19th century. I did not measure it at our house, but it took us three and a half hours to clear our driveway, even with a snowblower and three of us working.
Here are a few photos of some of the birds that came to our backyard during the blizzard, with all photos taken through the patio glass door, not an optimal setting.
Finally, another shot of that cute Blue Jay.
I think I have pinpointed why I love the Cardinal so much…they look like heroes. Your shot above is just the bravery I see in their faces 🙂 Cheers!

Nothing is more comforting than to see red Cardinals amid the white snow blanketing everything. Last year five of them came during a snow storm, this year only a couple, but even that was a welcome sight.

Wonderful photos of these birds. I’m happy they can come to your feeder even in a blizzard as finding other food would be difficult. I still remember how hard work it was to clear the driveway after a blizzard, even a smaller one than Jonas.

Thanks Tiny! Temperatures have been creeping toward 40 F, but then there is a threat of a little bit more snow this coming Friday. After all we are in mid winter.

I cannot believe the amount of snow you got, Neihtn!! It reminds me of the snow we got here in late 2014 and that, believe me, was a nightmare! Your bird shots are gorgeous and I LOVED every single one of them! Good for you for having the patience in capturing them. I seem so darn busy that I rarely get time just to set. Lucky you!!! ❤

Thanks Amy! During the blizzard, there was not much to do except look outside and see the poor birds competing for food at the bird feeder.

Gosh, so sorry that this happened. I saw it on the news, and I just can’t imagine having one meter or more snow at one’s doorstep!
Beautiful images of the birds..I hope they stay surviving during the blizzard. Stay warm and be safe 🙂

Thanks Indah. In the winter I put out more bird seeds, because the birds may not be able to find food as easily as in the summer. I hope it helps them survive.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m glad that the storm hit there and not here for a change. 😉
Despite shooting through the window, your photos of the birds are very good.

Thank you Amy. There was not much to do during the blizzard, and it was easy to take photos from inside a warm house. 🙂

Juncos are small except when they puff up to protect against the cold.
