At the beginning of this year, you may remember that I posted the following picture of a Dark-eyed Junco with a very visible growth on its left side.
Since then I hadn’t been seeing it and was thinking the worst could have happened. However, today, I noticed a Junco that had the same lopsided gait, and took the following photos. If it is the same bird, the tumor is no longer visible, and only a few feathers are still sticking out.
If it is the same bird, this Junco is a resilient bird indeed, appearing so bravely in a very cold an windy day. If it could talk, perhaps it could tell us volumes about how to cure tumors.
How wonderful! Nature is often cruel – but also fantastic.

Nice to see when ‘nature’ heals itself. I’m always impressed with how the body can heal itself, now you’ve shown me another case from our avian friends 🙂

You are right, Randall, no drug or surgery, only nature. It should give us faith in ourselves and in those creatures that share our lives.

Oh I am so happy! So, it was a cyst indeed, not a tumor. It looked like one, anyway, and now the little fellow is as good as new 🙂 Thank you for your photographs and the good news!

It’s great news that the junco survived whatever it was! It may have been an injury or infection, not a tumor, but no matter what, it pulled through as your great photos of it show.
