We got some more snow yesterday, not much, but enough to make the Cardinals stand out from the mostly white scenery.
Meanwhile a male Cardinal was dining at the bird feeder, unaware of what was going to happen to him.
As I pressed the shutter a few seconds later, another male Cardinal streaked in, forcefully chasing him away.

One of the things I miss not being in the colder weather, is seeing birds with bright colors in the snow. Beautiful images as always.

Thank you John. We always wish for things that we don’t or can’t have. I wish I could see and photograph the birds that you have in your warm area!

Thanks, good suggestion. I’ve been thinking about it: one in the backyard, another one out in front.

Those cardinals are gorgeous. The second photo is very cheeky and shows the wonderful texture of his feathers. 😀

Wow, I agree ~ the female cardinal is amazing, first I’ve ever seen (or noticed)…

Maybe you haven’t noticed her because Cardinals do not live in your part of the country, although it is said that they are slowly spreading out West.

It is true, they do not live out where I am ~ sure would like them to come our way however 🙂

Wonderful photos and a great look into the behavior of the cardinals this time of year! The seem to be such passive birds until mating season arrives, then the males become very territorial.

So that’s why. I was thinking they just compete for food. Thanks, Jerry!
