Snowy Egrets are probably among the best egrets at catching fish. Here’s a series of photos I took at the Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge last week when there were many of them, together with Great Egrets, flying around and fishing.
The Great Egrets were not so successful at finding fish. At least I did not see any of them catching anything while the Snowy Egrets were plucking fish now and then out of the same pond.
Remarkable captures! Love the first one especially. 🙂

Lucky shots! I have seen egrets quite often, but they would never let me come close, like herons would. Very shy. I have found a beautiful white feather though – instead of a photograph 🙂

Our egrets here are also shy, but I found out that they don’t mind when I stay more than 60 ft away. However, during mating season, all bets are off. 🙂

Beautiful captures! Maybe the Great Egrets had a bad day 🙂

Maybe they were just having a good time. 🙂 It’s breeding season after all, and they have to start finding mates and building nests.

The great egrets may have had things other than food on their minds that day. 🙂
We have a few great egrets around here, but the snowy egrets are quite rare, so it was a treat to see your photos of them.

You are probably right, Jerry. I never saw so many egrets on that small island in the middle of the pond. They were flying up and down constantly, perhaps in some mating ritual.
