A female Cardinal was dining when a male Downy Woodpecker landed. Female Cardinal: “Hey, I was here first!” Female Cardinal: “Wait your turn! Scram!” The Woodpecker flew away. That’s funny! I never think of cardinals as being aggressive, but they can be, especially if they are able to chase off a woodpecker.

Jerry, Downy Woodpeckers are smaller than Cardinals who scared them away easily. Then Cardinals have to yield to Blue Jays, and so on. Size matters here.
