For several years, I’ve put up birdhouses in the hope of attracting Bluebirds. I must have placed them in the wrong places, because no Bluebird came, and only Chickadees and House Wrens have taken advantage of my birdhouses. Yesterday, I saw an energetic House Wren busy building its nest inside one of the birdhouses.

House Wrens are mostly plain brown, but they sing well and are one of the most common birds in North America and South America.

Another great batch of images! They may not be as pretty as bluebirds, but their songs make up for being drably colored.

Hien, you’ve put together a wonderful series. I would guess that we are not the only ones that have to deal with frustration. We just use a bigger hammer.
I particularly like the image with the bird’s shadow.

Thank you Tim. I’ve seen various birds build their nest, but this was the first time I could photograph this industrious little bird doing so with such dedication.

Thank you Helen! I do help, but at the end of the season, in late fall. That’s when I empty out the nest and spray them with water to clean them.

There is definitely intelligence at work to get those long twigs in through the small hole then arrange them into a suitable nest – quite amazing.

It is amazing, that tiny bird, understanding how to angle a twig to get it into the hole… I especially love the Air House Wren, the shadow you captured are perfect. I have a few bluebird houses I watch on the Carden Alvar… so far all I see is a swallow. Do you know much about robins? we have a nest with 10 eggs in it… so unusual.

Thanks! I don’t know that much about Robins, but oh my, ten eggs! If they all hatch the parents will be kept very busy feeding the young ones.
