It’s been raining off and on again, and getting very hot, well above 90 °F (32 °C), so I stayed home and went around the yard to see if there are any summer flowers to photograph. I was immediately attracted to a large blooming Southern Magnolia (Magnolia Grandiflora) flower.

Hien that macro image is incredible. Well it is all incredible. We definitely do not have magnolias here so seeing them in your back yard is a wonder in itself.

Beautiful photos. I think I prefer the colour version better. All the little droplets around the flower but seemingly not in it is is a nice look. I assume there is water in the flower but difficult to see because of the white colour of the petals.

Thank you Wood Dragon. There was a little bit of water inside the flower. However, the rain fell while it had not opened up yet, and that’s why there was more water outside, in the form of droplets at the bottom of the petals.

Both are beautiful, however, I prefer the color picture. I like the subtle yellow against the creamy white.

I like both, and I’m a big magnolia fan. I love the close-up! Maybe you will photograph the flower as it goes to seed – that would be great.

I don’t know about this specific kind but there are magnolia trees in Boston’s public garden.
