Rudbeckia Prairie Sun is supposed to be deer resistant. However, they are now all gone, including buds that had not opened yet. At the height they were cut, I am suspecting that the deer ate them. All I have left is this picture, taken the day before they disappeared.

That is so frustrating, but you can’t totally depend on those “deer-resistant” plants. Different deer, different tastes!

The seller was very careful not to say they are deer-proof. The deer in our area are very persistent, eating whatever they like.

And there are no natural predators, so there you have it.

Darn deer. How heartbreaking. At least you have a photo to remember them.

Thank you Eliza. Deer has been a problem in New Jersey, or perhaps the whole Midlantic states for years.

A beautiful capture, Hien! I’m so surprised that deer would eat them….

Thanks Amy! They were advertised as deer resistant, but not deer proof.

Thanks, Katelon! Maybe we’ll get a few more flowers before the end of the summer.

I guess the deer did not get that memo about eating the flowers. We have a terrible time here with the deer and flowers.

It’s not like they don’t have enough to eat. They been cleaning out our peaches and pears, and probably our neighbors’ too.

Darn deer, eating your flowers is a poor way of paying you back for the safe haven that you’re providing for them. They must be related to goats, as they will eat about anything, including roses which I thought would be protected by their thorns. No, the deer ate them too.

Deer eat roses also. We had a rose bush covered with red flowers that almost completely hid all the foliage. One morning I noticed the roses were all gone, and blamed that on Japanese beetles. Now that I think about it, it was the deer that ate them. Usually Japanese beetles nibble on the roses, or use them as mating locations, and they never eat every flower overnight!
