Going through some unpublished photos I took over the last few months, I am struck by the many different kinds of birds that live in our small part of New Jersey. Here’s how diversity looks among birds.

Great set of images! I see you used both the 7DII and the 5DMark IV on these shots and was wondering which is your prefer camera for birding?

Thank you John. I took the older photos with the 7D II, and the newer ones with the 5D IV. With the 5D, I can crop a lot and still come out with better quality than the 7D. Also at high ISO like 1000, the 7D has too much noise. However, for the same lens, if I need a longer reach I may have to use the 7D because of the 1.6 factor.

Careful, noting the variety of bird species that I saw is what led me to start my project of trying to photograph all the species of birds regularly seen in Michigan. My guess is that the number of species is even higher in New Jersey, due to the ocean birds to be seen. You may well end up spending all your time chasing birds, which you are very good at, over all the other subjects that you photograph so well also.

Thank you Jerry, but I can never be as patient and a perfectionist like you! Many birds still elude me and it will take me many more years to even come close to your level. 🙂

Nice! The Juvenile Red-winged Blackbird is an odd looking fellow.
