The remnants of Hurricane Jose were way out on the ocean, but the weathermen predicted big waves for New Jersey shoreline, so I went there today. The waves were indeed more violent than usual, a little bit higher, but nowhere near the big Kahuna that surfers crave for.

Beautiful photographs – just right – some big waves, and spared the extra drama. I love the last one, just breaking with the light showing through.

Since you mentioned drama, I just heard on the news that three people drowned on the New Jersey beaches this past weekend. The lifeguards and police were kept busy rescuing dozens of others.

Wow, I know that’s not typical. When I first moved out here, I missed the drama of eastern weather – the storms, the extremes. Now I’ve gotten used to temperatures and winds being moderated by mountains, and much less prone to big fluctuations. September can be a dangerous time on the Jersey shore!

I grew up on Long Island, so I know large waves and you were smart to avoid the rip currents after getting these great pictures.

I know how large the waves can get on the Great Lakes, I can only imagine how large the waves on an ocean churned up by a hurricane would be. Loved the lighting in all the shots, they really show the power off the waves.

Thanks Jerry. Actually, those waves did not look too big. Perhaps if I were in the water, I would think otherwise. 🙂

They only cautioned us about rip currents, but nobody was swimming!
