Once the fog had completely dissipated, Forster’s Terns came out and again earned their reputation as ace flyers and divers. I had my camera set to capture them at 1/3000 sec, but even that was barely enough to freeze their motion in mid air, especially during their almost vertical dives.
Finally I was able to catch one of these birds with a fish it had just caught.
Your photos are almost like being there, although there is no substitute.

It is hard to catch in flight photos of birds that are sharp. Yours are some of the best I have seen recently.

Shutter speed is one thing, how were you able to keep up with the terns when you were moving the camera to track them? I’m very impressed, as these are far better than I’ve been able to do.

Thanks Jerry! I was shooting from my car window, using a bean bag for support, so maybe that helped.

Good job on the flying birds, excellent captures. I don’t do these kinds of shots but you make it look easy 🙂 …. but I know they ain’t easy.
