Le Rouge et le Noir (The Red and the Black) is the title of a novel published in 1830 by the French writer Stendhal. That said, the following two images have nothing to do with the book.

The Red, a Northern Cardinal.

The Black, a Dark-eyed Junco.

Nieh, a wonderful color contrast between these two. Also excellent detail in the Junco. That is so hard to get.

Thank you Tim. You are right, of course. Those Juncos are too dark for most photos.

Thank you Jerry. So far, the weather and shooting conditions have been lousy at best. Maybe next week will be better.

Indeed! The Juncos are ever present in winter, and the Cardinals are there year-round.
