On a snowy day three years ago, I watched the birds flock to our feeder. Traffic was heavy, with the Dark-eyed Juncos being the most assiduous and energetic. With my camera on a tripod from inside the house I tried to get shots of them flying and competing for seeds.

Extraordinary, Hien! They look larger than life and what action! Ours fight a lot here, but mainly just with annoyed sounds and a very brief chase – nothing as dramatic as this moment you captured.

Thanks Lynn! Juncos are always chasing each other from the bird feeder. I can sometimes get a good shot of them fighting like in the above photo.

I don’t know how you were able to get such great images of the juncos in flight, but you did! I do okay on medium size and larger birds, but I can’t capture small birds like these in flight.

Thanks Jerry! I used a tripod, aimed the camera at that spot and just clicked when the birds come into the frame.
