It’s been snowing since early this morning and will not stop until late tonight. So far, eight hours into our fourth Nor’Easter only about 5 inches of snow fell, but the forecast is calling for at least double that by the time the storm ends.
As usual, I cleaned and stocked the bird feeder with sunflower seeds and all the usual birds came, emptying half of the feeder by the end of the day. I did not miss the opportunity to take some photos as they posed among the magnolia branches.

I really take to that tufted titmouse, what a pity we don’t have them over here in Scotland. The snow enhances the prettiness of that picture. It is just delightful, as are so many of your portraits of birds.

You are being tested this winter! But your photos are so beautiful – the snow brings out wonderful lighting, and keeps the backgrounds nice and simple. Are you sure that’s a House sparrow – maybe a White-throated? Whatever the name, all very beautiful.

You are right: it’s a White-throated Sparrow, with those white feathers covering its throat. I will make a correction now. Thank you!

It’s nice that you have them at your feeder….I’m three stories up in an apartment, but it’s in the woods and there’s a deck. I put feeders out, of course seed gets knocked off them, and Song sparrows take advantage of that. But no other sparrows come. Once in a while I see a wren too, which is nice – Bewick’s. We have loads of chickadees (two kinds), nuthatches, and woodpeckers – just like you. And juncos, though it’s a slightly different species. It’s fun to compare east and west.

I read in a BBC article that winter storm Toby, the fourth Nor’easter,is still battering the US East Coast despite the start of spring.I reckon,this is the one you are talking about.Nevertheless,your very special visitors seem to enjoy it in a way since their dinner is regularly served.They are all so beautiful and handsomely adorn the snowy tree branches.Splendid your captures,Hien .

Thank you Tim! The storm turned out to be more bearable than last time, with the snow melting fast. Spring is supposed to be here…
