Our Paw Paw (Asimina Triloba) trees are loaded with flowers this year, even before any leaf appeared. Here are some shots of the flowers, which promise a bountiful harvest of Paw Paw fruit, also known as Quaker Delight or Hillbilly Mango, in the fall.

Interesting – I’ve heard of them but am not really familiar with them – very nicely photographed, I can tell it wasn’t so easy. 🙂

They are very different from other flowers, all brownish as if they were wilting, but they are very much alive and will produce many fruit.

Did you know that the female parts of individual Paw Paw flowers tend to be done
before the male pollen is mature and released? This is why it is a good idea to
plant other Paw Paw trees which have grown from different parent trees. It helps
to expand the time of available pollen and receptive stigmas. The tiny stigmas
project beyond the mound of anthers which turn brownish when they are releasing
the pollen. Manually taking the pollen by a small brush to less mature flowers can
help insure the development of fruit.

Thank you for such informative advice! I have four different trees and last year was the first time we had any fruit. It took five years! If we don’t get many fruit this year, I will try pollinating by hand as you mentioned.

They’re an unusual color, but I really like them, and of course, your images of them.
