This male Northern Cardinal was perched on the magnolia branches near the bird feeder. He easily outshone the other nearby birds: female Northern Cardinal, Carolina Chickadee, House Finches, White-breasted Nuthatch, Dark-eyed Juncos, and so on.

What a glorious bird! How big are they? Are look like a member of the finch family.

They are a little bit smaller than a Robin, and are in the Cardinalidae family. Finches are in the Fringillidae family.

Is that an American Robin, you mean? Because we have a European version (robin, I mean) that looks quite a bit different, smaller I think.

Just looked up bird sizes and the Cardinal is pretty big, much bigger than a European robin, closer to a starling, I think?

Love the Cardinal, although they are in the areas I go to out west here I don’t see them often! You capture him well with his bright red and very nice background bokeh!
