A few days ago, at Holgate I was captivated by the waves crashing on the beach and on the man-made barrier separating it from the rest of Long Beach Island.
The following photos are of the same wave as it folded and exploded under the wind.
Here are more waves assaulting the man-made barrier.
By the way, a birder reported seeing not one but two Snowy Owls at Holgate, two days after I was there!
Great close ups!

These are exciting! Those owls should have waited for you though. 🙂

Thank you! There were half a dozen surveyors with a big vehicle, and the owls were spooked!

That’s too bad, but maybe it was for a good cause – I hope so.

A great series of images! I shot a similar series a few weeks ago, but you had a much better angle and lighting, so thanks for showing me how it should be done.

Thank you Jerry! I had as much light as I wanted that day, and the 5D performed nicely.

All beautiful but I just love that last photo with the rusty barrier colors! Time for you to go back to Holgate for that Snowy, Hien! 🙂 A Snowy Owl was seen in farm field about a 1/2 hour from me a few days ago but not since. I was hoping it would hang around for a while.

Thank you Donna! Someone reported seeing two Snowy Owls at Holgate two days after I was there. It is now too cold to go back out, but I will try again some day.

That looks like cold water. It is amazing to me that people surf in the cold like that, in winter.
Great photos. Hopefully you’ll be able to make it back soon to see the Owls.

Thanks Katelon! Water temperature in that area averages 35 F in January, rather cold right? However, those surfers had wet suits and maybe something else underneath to keep them warm. Still …
