Our yellow Magnolia tree flowers late, and has managed to attract Bluebirds for the second year in a row.

The Bluebird, or its partner, checked out one of the birdhouses I put up.

However, there is no sign yet that the birdhouse is occupied by any bird.
Meanwhile, during a walk around Colonial Lake, I saw an abandoned Canada Goose egg on the ground, near the water. It was quite big, but there was no Canada Geese around it.

One can see many Canada Geese at Colonial Lake, either swimming in the water or grazing onshore. I have no idea why this one egg was left out in the open with no mother goose tending it. Another mystery.

Such a lovely picture of your bluebird of happiness! I saw my very first one just a couple of years ago in New Mexico. What a thrill that was. They are so very pretty.

The Bluebird you saw in New Mexico was probably a Western Bluebird with a blue throat, while the one on this page is an Eastern Bluebird with an orange throat. I think both are beautiful birds.

Wonderful first shot of the Bluebird, Hien! Wow, what an egg find! Are you sure the Easter Bunny wasn’t around and had dropped it?
Just teasing! I have never seen a goose egg, my goodness it looks quite large! That is a mystery on why it was left like that!

That egg was big and heavy, probably 1/3 lb. I plan to go back to that spot and see whether the egg is still there. Literature says that the mother does not start building up the nest until the second egg arrives.

I put a bluebird box last year. No residents. I have a mealworm feeder nearby but still no apparent interest in the box!

I think Bluebirds like to have a lot of open space in front of their nest. We do, but maybe that is not enough for them. Eventually Chickadee or House Wrens adopt the birdhouses we put up. That’s better than no birds.
