Oculus is the name of the World Trade Center station in New York City completed in 2016. Today I went there for the first time to take photographs from different angles of the wonderfully striking building. However, I forgot to bring a spare battery for my camera, which cut drastically short that plan. In the end I was only able to take the following shots.

One of these days, I will have to make another trip to the city to take other photos of the rest of Oculus and the World Trade Center, with at least one spare battery.

Definitely you need to go back with more battery power….amazing structure. Would be fun to see it in different lights like early day and late day with pretty colors.

Yes….me too! 😉 I used to work next to that site, and watched some of the construction in earlier phases. But it was a very stressful location to work in – there were always reminders of 9/11 – you could never get away from it.

You are right, the battery gave out too soon. Usually I carry a spare in my backpack, but that day I had moved the camera to a shoulder bag. 😦

Quite a testimony to the stark, steel girders that were exposed when the original buildings fell. Beautiful (and quite moving) photos, thank you.

Oculus has the effect of most people that the architect, Santiago Calatrava, intended. It takes you in and evokes strong emotions within you.

It is a stunning building and your eyes are drawn to it immediately when you emerge from the lower parts of the train station.

I do like big train stations because of the space and light is quite exciting – like the Victorian ones on London.

Helen, I used a 16-35 mm f/4 lens. It is very good for this kind of photography.
