The abundant rain we have had this Spring has led to lots of vibrant summer flowers.
Milkweed ( Asclepias tuberosa).

Some Monarch butterflies have already started to visit the milkweed.
Astilbe.
Orange Echinacea.
Kabocha (winter squash) flower in vegetable garden.
Inside the house, the Clivia plant, now divided into three separate pots, is also blooming vigorously.

These shots make me feel the warmth of the summer sun on me… thank you, as the grey, cold rain of today is giving me the opposite 🙂

I hear you! We have had record low temperatures this past week, the lowest since 1911. All the flowers are now dead, but the thought of them coming back in a few more months will make winter seem shorter.

We planted native milkweed hoping to lure some Monarchs our way. How wonderful you’re already seeing some! Beyond the milkweed, all the images are lovely. Having never seen Cleome, does it open up more in time?

Yes, Cleome (spider flower) does open up, as it is doing this week in our yard. They are easy to grow and spread out easily.

Really enjoyed all of your flowers, Hien, and the milkweed is fabulous. There’s no better way to have monarchs in your yard, than to grow their host food. How very wonderful, I hope it fills with monarchs in the coming months.

I’ve seen only one, very battered-looking, that I hope laid some eggs in my milkweed patch, which is full bloom now. Fingers crossed!
