It was a beautiful and cold three days ago at the refuge. After hiding for most of the week, the sun was out. The wind was blowing fairly strongly and lifted the clouds toward the heavens.
As I drove on Wildlife Drive, a Northern Harrier pair was hunting for food, such as voles and mice, among the low vegetation along the marshes. They cut in front of my car, disappeared in the grasses at times. I tried to follow them and only managed to get an occasional shot.
Meanwhile, ducks and geese took off in dramatic formations against the blue sky.

Thank you John! Naturally I took several shots, but the others show more vegetation than bird.

Gorgeous shots, Hien, I esp. love the male Northern Harrier shot, capturing using that ‘owl-like’ face for the hunt!!

Thank you Donna! I’ve been trying to photograph those Northern Harriers for months. They seem to follow or precede my car, but as soon as I stopped for a shot they disappear.

You got some really nice images, especially if the harriers. It must have been chilly out there.

As I write this, it is 22° and snowing outside. I estimate we have received 4-5 inches so far. Looks like you may get more where you are?

Wow, you’re definitely getting more than we are here on the western edge of this storm. Just 50 miles south and east of us are getting a lot more. It’s currently 14º with windchill gusts in the minus teens. It’s predicted to be only 2-4″ here, which is nothing and easy to deal with.
Hope you don’t get hit too hard and come through safely. Take care!
