My Featured Blogger this week is Neihtn (Nguyễn Trọng Hiền a.k.a. Hien T. Nguyen). Vietnamese photographer and writer Neightn (now living in the United States) captures singular moments in time with his camera and his words. Moments that matter. Moments that stay with us.
Aigrette is a French word for egret. Aigrettes used to be fashionable and were worn by Western women. That led to a drastic decline in egret populations until that fashion went out of style.
Ah, yes I can see those beautiful feathers on some silly giant hat. Thank goodness thise hats went out of fashion. Probably one of few good things to come out of the First World War; sensible hats for women.
You are so talented

I had never come across the term “aigrettes” before. Are they unique to egrets. They are wonderfully fancy.

I think this egret likes the camera! Wonderful shots Hien …

You may be right indeed, Julie! The egrets posed for a long time and did not fly away despite many cameras pointed at them.

I would say the plumes would be irresistible to the opposite sex.

The plumes are indeed a very visible signal to the opposite sex. After mating season, one does not see them any more.
