Thanks Eric. I am trying out the new camera as much as I can, and some features are amazing, like the button that allows you to zoom out quickly, center your shot, then zoom back in!

I have recently purchased the same camera model and so far I love it.
I like this photo of the pretty little House Finch on the blue and white dish.

Thanks, Pat. We’ll have to exchange our experience and possibly tips on using the SX50.

That is a great capture! The clarity is incredible. Can’t believe you took it through the glass door.

Amy, the glass door is the only option for now. People say that with time the birds will get used to a photographer and will even feed from his/her hands. I am nowhere near that stage yet.

Lucky you to have such pretty local birds, Hien ! – like HJ … Ours are Indian Mynahs and very plain sparrows. 😦

The 50 is doing a great job! I knew the SX40 was out but not the 50. I have the SX30 model, it lacks some of the new modes yours apparently has, as well as a different lens. These are the last step in the point-n-shoot cameras I believe, darn good cameras.

Thank you for your comments! If this is the last advance for these kinds of cameras, I am very happy to keep mine. By the way, this was taken through the patio door glass, so image quality could be even better out in the open.

They spread the word, so if you keep the seeds out, you’ll get plenty of birds. The SX50 is certainly excellent for this kind of use.

So far, the SX50 has been very good, especially its ability to zoom in at 1200mm. As for the seeds, because we have greedy squirrels also, I only put them out when I can watch the deck.:-)
