Last night, loud thunder announced the arrival of rain which gave everything a good soaking and lowered temperatures a bit. The weatherman said we may get some more rain tonight and next week, so maybe this year’s drought is over.
This morning, I went around the yard taking pictures of the only flowers that survived and are thriving this summer: Cleome (spider plant), Crape Myrtle, and Hibiscus.
These Cleome plants require little care and have endured for several years despite my intentional neglect of them.

Hien, we too are in a drought with the water table down about 3 feet (about 1 liter). I’ve been watering quite a bit and I thank God my husband put an irrigation system in three of my gardens last year. LOVED your pictures!! Nature inspires us to persevere even through a drought. I’ll take that lesson home with me! Thank you so much for the beauty I found here today! xo

Thank you Amy! Following your example, maybe next year I will put a drip irrigation system in our vegetable garden.

Thank you, Julie! Cleome, or spider flowers, are a favorite of mine because they are super easy to grow. They don’t even need watering.

Thank you Emma! We need more downpours like that, but the skies are still very blue most of the time.

I will accept it may be just a 1/2″ to an inch but weekly is nice we are 15″ in deficit.

Thank you, Jim! Not enough rain fell, and we are still in a severe drought situation.

Unfortunately, it was only temporary, and not enough rain fell. Maybe hurricane season will finally bring substantial relief, as well as other worries.

We did get some, but not nearly enough. We still have to water our vegetable garden and some bushes and trees to prevent them from dying.

Great pictures, Hien. I’m glad you got some rain. We’ve been dry here, too, and just got over 5 inches of rain in two nights. 🙂

Thank you Tim! For us, not too much rain came, brown patches are getting larger, and weak trees are dying.

No significant rain here so envious of what you’ve received. Your spiders are beautiful.

Thank you, Steve! The rain came, but in small quantities like 0.1 in at a time. So I am still having to water as much as possible, within reason. 😉

We finally had a serious rain but it only lasted a few hours and when I visited a favorite pond this morning it still resembled a mud hole. We run a dehumidifier and that water is applied to our gardens. Also I get bags of ice with my groceries at Whole Foods so that ices lands near a plant too. We have rain barrels but for some reason they don’t collect water when it doesn’t rain. 🙂
