cooper's hawk, Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, greater yellowlegs, postaday, ring-billed gull
As mentioned earlier, it was cold on my visit to the refuge last week, as seen in the following shot.
A Greater Yellowlegs was actively looking for food.
A Ring-billed Gull flew nearby and performed acrobatic moves to try unsuccessfully to catch a fish.
A Cooper’s Hawk was perched silently on a branch and did not fly away as I approached it. Perhaps it was still digesting a meal.

A good Group of images on a cold winter day. I think that Cooper’s Hawk is thinking “Alright whats he doing back there”. 💭

You are right about that hawk, John! There was also an Audubon group right after me , and it did not like so many people coming up behind it.

Thank you! That hawk usually circles overhead and I think this was the first time I could come close enough to it while it stayed on one branch.

Thank you Nes! The cold and wind have cut back my outdoor activities, and I can’t wait for spring and warm weather to come back.

I so admire you getting out there in the cold ~ the photos of ice and water in the wild is so beautiful. Your capture of the Greater Yellowlegs are tremendous ~ the photos are crisp and detailed, matches the inspiration of being out there on such a cold day 🙂 Beautiful work, Hien.
