I put out a brick of bird feed mixed with mealworms, and right on cue, the birds came and willingly posed for Cee’s challenge.

inCee’s challenge is about bridges: https://ceenphotography.com/2016/07/05/cees-fun-foto-challenge-bridges-2/
I took the following photos along the famed Cabrillo Highway (or Highway 1) south of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Except for the footbridge below, the other bridges were built during the Depression from 1931 to 1932. Despite the challenging terrain and occasional bad weather, the bridges were built on schedule, and Bixby bridge was completed under budget! Today those terms, on schedule and under budget, are unheard of in major construction projects.

A flock of Ruddy Turnstones was basking in the sun at the Barnegat Lighthouse jetty at the northern tip of Long Beach Island in New Jersey. I took a few pictures of them, and of one in particular that was shaking off water perhaps coming from a wave that got too close.

inFor this challenge, http://ceenphotography.com/2015/05/19/cees-fun-foto-challenge-pairs/, today I witnessed a pair of Laughing Gulls in breeding plumage standing apart from all the thousands of other birds at the narrow beach in Heislerville, NJ on Delaware Bay. The two only paid attention to each other and did not join the other birds in their annual feast of horseshoe crab eggs at this time of the year.

inFor this challenge, I am submitting a photo of New York City’s waterfront as seen a mile away from Liberty State Park in New Jersey. This was taken at sunset, on a cold and cloudy day, a week ago. The Empire State Building, for many years the tallest skyscraper in the city, is slightly to the left of the picture center.

For this challenge, I submit the following photos taken in the fall of 2011. The first two are famous but abandoned barns built by the Moulton brothers along Mormon Row north of Jackson, WY.
This next photo is of a cabin built by John Pierce Cunningham in 1888.
If you go visit Grand Teton National park, make it a point to stop by these abandoned barns and cabin and snap a few photos.

inFor this challenge, I am submitting a photo I took today of a Semipalmated Plover at the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Refuge. This is one of the cutest birds with a large head and big eyes. It is found mainly around sandy beaches. They are hard to see because their colors blend in well with their environment. I heard this bird melodious call first, then I turned toward the sound and saw it.
I had wrongly identified this bird as a Piping Plover, which is an endangered species. The Semipalmated Plover is not endangered, and is said to be doing well and increasing in population.
